Plaid & Argyle Collection — FAQs
What patterns does the Plaid & Argyle collection cover?
Traditional golf patterns — argyle diamonds, tartan plaids, houndstooth, and Prince of Wales checks — reinterpreted through Tattoo Golf's bolder visual style. Colorways are usually more saturated than a classic country-club argyle (think brighter reds, deeper blues, higher-contrast lines) so the patterns read modern rather than retro.
What's the difference between argyle, plaid, and houndstooth?
Argyle is the diamond-shape pattern with contrasting lines over the top — classic "golf sweater" look. Plaid is any crossing horizontal and vertical stripe grid (tartan is a type of plaid). Houndstooth is the small, broken four-pointed pattern that reads as tiny abstract shapes at a distance. All three are traditional golf patterns; the collection remixes each one.
What products are available in these patterns?
Primarily golf polos, with some shorts and pants in coordinated pattern-and-solid combinations. Argyle and houndstooth work best on shirts; plaid shorts and pants are the most-picked bottoms in the collection. Full head-to-toe pattern-on-pattern outfits are possible but most customers pair a patterned shirt with a solid short or vice versa.
What fabric are the patterned pieces built on?
Cool-Stretch or ProCool performance fabric depending on style — same 4-way-stretch, moisture-wicking build as the rest of the technical line. The patterns are dyed or printed into the fabric rather than applied as a surface graphic, so they hold up through washes the same way solid colors do.
Are patterned golf shirts still appropriate for private clubs?
Yes — plaid, argyle, and houndstooth are heritage golf patterns that pre-date almost every dress code. Any club that allows patterned shirts will allow these. If a club specifically disallows all patterns and requires solids, that's uncommon in golf but does exist at a small number of very traditional courses — check the pro shop if you're playing somewhere new.
